Alec Hall

“As a retired veterinarian turned professional artist, it is only natural that my main subject is animals. My artistic juices really start flowing when I am caught up in the portrayal of the birds and animals that I have worked with and observed for most of my life. Yet realistic fur textures and correct anatomy are often times not enough to bring an animal to life on paper if the subject is not in a natural setting. Therefore, in recent years, I have been studying various techniques to paint the landscape. And what better way to experience and internalize the landscape then to paint en plein air. I feel like I am a beginning art student all over again each time I take my pastels and easel and venture out of the comfort of my studio to paint the world that surrounds me. Yet I know that with practice and patience I will be able to eventually portray the simple beauty that is found throughout nature.
