Grand Haven artist, Barbara Berens studied art at Kendall School of Design in Grand Rapids, MI and at the University of Texas at Austin. She is currently working as a full-time graphic designer, but is also pursuing her interest in art. She attends workshops in oil painting, drawing and figure studies, and paints as much as possible. A love of nature, animals, hiking, and photography all support her interest in art.
“I’ve wanted to be an artist since I was a child. I remember the first small oil painting set my Mom got me for my birthday when I was about 10. I was so thrilled I went directly outside and did my first painting of a field with rolling hills and a line fence. Art and nature are so fundamental to my well-being; I can’t think of my life without them. Plein air painting fulfills both passions. I’m inspired by the work of so many wonderful painters I’ve studied with, and by all the great artists past and present. I really enjoy painting en plein air with the PAAWM group.”
