Barbara Schilling

Barb Schilling is an artist from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her oil paintings have been shown throughout the West Michigan area and have received many awards for her unique treatment of landscapes.

Barbara's paintings have a distinctive use of color and atmosphere. As a nature lover and out-of-doors person, Barbara collects information for her large studio paintings both through plein air studies and photos. After the initial layout, she prefers to set her source materials aside and just let the painting take it's own direction. Therein develops the blend of realism and fantasy of her loose, impressionist style.

"I try to see beauty in things around me. Beauty can be found in the simplest things and in the most unlikely places... As an artist, I want to share my vision of what I see. My hope is that others will be able to experience the sense of awe and appreciation I felt when I was in a place, in a moment that will never again be quite the same."
