Bruce Foxworthy

As early as I can remember I have been to one degree or another creatively engaged in all sorts of mediums. I started playing piano at age ten and at the same time was equally practicing carving, drawing and painting.

In my middle High School years, I found my first recognition with oil painting by winning the, Michigan BAA, (Bloomfield Artist Association), semi-annual scholarship for young artists and began formal art classes. I continued off and on taking classes at a local fine arts and crafts school located next to the Detroit Institute Of Arts and at the Cranbrook Academy of Arts located near my home in Bloomfield Hills Mich.

I started designing and making pierced metal lanterns in the early 70’s and in 1973 was a demonstrating artist on the, “Art Train”, when it’s venue was in Brighton Michigan. I began my career in the tool and die/machine tool industry and also began to take my lanterns around Michigan and Ohio Art fairs as I could. I was a participant at the popular Ann Arbor Art Fair for several years. For many years, I was selling my drawings and paintings through the Golden Gallery in downtown Brighton, Michigan. I was also involved with making my lanterns at the Renaissance Festivals, near Holly Michigan.

In 2012 I began to oil paint plein air. I currently study under the tutelage of Heiner Hertling the originator of the PBS plein air television series “Your Brush With Nature”, now on Netflix. Recently one of my plein air paintings was in a featured article in the online, Plein Air Magazine.
