Afterglow - Watercolor
"While painting on site I am inspired not only by the visual experience, but also by the sounds, scents, and feel of my surroundings. Light changes quickly, and factors such as sunlight, humidity and temperature greatly effect the way watercolor paints handle. These variables influence the working methods I choose to employ. Painting en plein air naturally encourages me to express a more immediate impression and response to my subjects, rather than closely record visual information.
As a long-time member of the Plein Air Artists of West Michigan, I am very grateful for the unique experiences I’ve been able to share with friends who also enjoy “adventure painting.”
As a natural extension of my love of painting, I teach watercolor at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. In addition to teaching studio courses, I occasionally offer classes in on site painting."
